For our leather goods, we select premium hides for their combination of strength, character, feel, and ability to develop a beautiful patina through years of use. Much of the leather we use has the rich, natural qualities associated with traditional vegetable tanning, with carefully developed oils and waxes that give the surface depth, softness, and a distinctive character from the very beginning.

Natural Character, Not Perfection

We believe good leather should look like leather.

Rather than covering the hide beneath a heavy, uniform finish, these leathers retain much of the natural character of the grain. Subtle variations in color, grain, texture, and surface markings are part of what makes each hide—and each finished bag—unique.

You may notice slight differences between two pieces of leather, even when they are made from the same type of hide. One may be a little lighter or darker, while another may show more pronounced grain or natural variation. These aren't flaws. They are evidence of the natural material we chose to work with.

A Leather With Depth

The character of these leathers comes from more than color alone. Oils and waxes worked into the leather give it a depth and richness that changes as the surface moves and flexes.

This can produce a subtle pull-up effect, where the color appears to shift or lighten when the leather is bent, folded, or handled. With use, areas that receive the most contact can become slightly lighter, darker, smoother, or more burnished.

The result is a bag that gradually develops its own visual history.

We choose our leather not simply because it is beautiful, but because it needs to perform.

A handbag or tote is handled constantly. It is carried, set down, opened, closed, folded, bumped, and exposed to the ordinary evidence of daily life. The leathers we select have the substance and durability needed for that kind of use while retaining a supple, comfortable hand.

Depending upon the particular leather and design, it may begin with a more substantial feel or a softer, more relaxed character. Either way, our goal is the same: leather that feels at home in the hand and becomes increasingly comfortable as it becomes yours.

The Beauty of a Patina

Perhaps our favorite quality is what happens next.

Premium leather develops a patina—a gradual change in color, surface character, and sheen brought about by handling, movement, light, and time. Areas that are touched frequently may become smoother and richer. Edges can darken or burnish. The surface may develop subtle variations that simply cannot be manufactured.

In other words, your bag becomes more personal the longer you own it.

A new leather bag should look beautiful on the day you receive it. A truly good leather bag should look even better years later.

Every Hide Tells a Slightly Different Story

Because we work with natural leather, variation is expected and appreciated.

The color you see in one piece may not be precisely identical to another. Natural grain patterns may vary. Small marks and variations in the hide can remain visible. Even the way a particular piece responds to light or handling can differ.

This is one of the reasons we enjoy working with leather so much. We aren't manufacturing uniformity—we are working with a natural material and allowing its character to become part of the finished piece.
